Many quinoa recipes use quinoa that has already been been cooked and prepared before including in a recipe. This is why you hear people talking about cooking quinoa twice. Once you have cooked the quinoa in this way you can use it as a base for curry, mexican dishes and any other favourite rice based meals. You can also cool the quinoa for half an hour and put it in salads. By adding chopped vegetables such as cucumber, leaf salad and rocket you have a lovely meal.
Step 1
Rinse the quinoa in a fine seive with cold water. You may need to do this a second time to be sure the coating is removed. The rinsing method is needed for fresh non manufactured type quinoa. it is an important cooking stage.
Step 2
Measure out one cup of quinoa to two cups of water into a saucepan.
Step 3
Bring the mixture to the boil, stirring gently to ensure it does not stick to the pan. The quinoa will come to the boil in the water and then you can let it simmer for a further 10 minutes or even longer. The time you cook it for will make it either firm and crunchy with as short time or much softer and chewy with a long cooking time. The quinoa will not need draining as it takes in all the water and expands. The expanded quinoa will be double the original size when it is cooked. Take the saucepan of the hob.
Step 4
Your quinoa is now ready to serve as a substitute for rice with curry and other dishes. You can also include it as a part of one of your regular meals. Quinoa generally blends in with the flavours of the foods that you cook it with. You will no go hungry with this grain as it is substantial and filling.
It is also ready to include in the recipes that are in the quinoa recipes book.
